On July 20th, 1969 in front on a television audience of millions, Neil Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the Moon. Armstrong the Apollo 11 commander and pilot Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin spent 21 hours and 37 minutes on the moon exploring and collecting samples. This achievement was the culmination of a goal set forth by John F. Kennedy to "...place a man on the moon before this decade is out..."
