China's First Manned Flight Into SpaceHistorical EventsOn Wednesday October, 15, 2003 Chinese astronaut Yang Liwei blasted off at 9:00 am from China's Jiuquan Space Launch Center in the Gobi Desert. Liwei reached orbit in the Shenzhou V space capsule, becoming the first Chinese astronaut and making China only the third nation (After Russia and The USA) to reach space with a manned spacecraft.
