First African-American To Win Best Actor
Sidney Poitier became the first African-American to win an Oscar award for Best Actor. After receiving his second nomination, at the 36th Academy Awards he won for his roll in the 1963 movie Lilies Of The Field.
At the 74th Academy Awards in 2002 he would be given his second Oscar, an Honorary Award, "for his extraordinary performances and unique presence on the screen, and for representing the motion picture industry with dignity, style and intelligence throughout the world."
