Vice President Cheney Accidently Shoots Man

While on a quail hunt on a friend's South Texas ranch, Vice President Dick Cheney accidently shot 78-year-old Harry Whittington about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2006.

Whittington, an Austin attorney and Republican campaign contributor, was among a group out hunting with Cheney when he was hit in the face and chest by birdshot pellets. He had been approaching the hunting group, appearently unannounced, from about 30 yards away when Cheney fired at a covey of quail with a 28-gauge shotgun.

Whittington recovered in a Corpus Christi hospital.
