The Tallest Road Bridge

At 891 feet (270 meters) tall, the 1.6 mile (2.5 kilometer) long Millau bridge is the tallest road bridge in the world. It crosses the Tarn valley, in France's Massif Central mountains, as a new north-south link between Paris and the Mediterranean.

The suspension bridge hangs on seven towers, the tallest being 1,122 feet tall. It was constructed over three years at a cost of 394 million euro.

The bridge was officially inaugurated by President Jacques Chirac on December 14th, 2004 and opened to traffic on December 16th, 2004.
