The Origin of The Title of Paul Simon's First Solo Single
The first single Paul Simon released as a solo artist (following the split with Art Garfunkel) was entitled "Mother and Child Reunion." The meaning behind the song was a matter for hot debate.
In a 1972 interview with Rolling Stone magazine; Simon cleared up the mystery by explaining that the title was taken from the name of a Chinese dish he spotted while eating at Say Eng Look Restaurant in New York City's Chinatown district. "Mother and Child Reunion" or "mother-daughter reunion" dishes are common chicken-and-egg dishs served at many Chinese restaurants.
