Groundbreaking Musician, Jimi Hendrix, Dies
After overdosing on a cocktail of barbiturates and sleeping pills in a West London Hotel, Jimi Hendrix was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was declared dead at 12:45 pm on September 18, 1970.
The guitar legend was born John Allen Hendrix on November 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington. His father, Al Hendrix renamed him James Marshall Hendrix in 1945 when he returned from World War II in Europe. He was 27 at the time of his death.
Hendrix was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as a member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience) in 1992.
