President Ronald Reagan Is Shot

Historical Events

Outside of the Washington Hilton on March 30, 1981 President Ronald Reagan was shot, along with his press secretary, James Brady, and two others. In a desperate effort to impress actress Jodie Foster, a student at Yale University at the time, John Hinckley Jr. opened fire on the president.

President Reagan was hit in the chest, but recovered. Brady was left partially paralized.

Over a year later on June 21, 1982, Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity. He was committed to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, D.C.
