 | President Ronald Reagan Is ShotOutside of the Washington Hilton on March 30, 1981 President Ronald Reagan was shot, along with his press secretary, James Brady, and two others. In a desperate effort to impress actress Jodie Foster, a student at Yale University at the time, John Hinckley Jr. opened fire on the president.
President Reagan was hit in the chest, but recovered. Brady was left partially paralized.

Over a year later on June 21, 1982, Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity. He was committed to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, D.C.
