The oldest living person was Charlotte Benkner, of North Lima, Ohio, born November 16, 1889. She became the oldest living person after Mitoyo Kawate, who was born May 15, 1889, died of pneumonia in November 2003.

She held the title, only until March 2004 when Ramona Trinidad Iglesias Jordan of Puerto Rico was confirmed as having been born August 31st, 1889.

Charlotte died Tuesday, May 18, 2004. Ramona also died days later on May 29th of pneumonia after a brief hospitalization.
