The Taipei 101 office tower in Taipei, Taiwan became the tallest building in the world when a huge 60-metre metal spire was placed on the top of the 101-floor structure on October 17, 2003. The final height of the building is 1,674 feet (508 metres), surpasses the 452-meter high Petronis twin towers in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. The building remains under construction and will not officially open until late 2004.
