First Usage Of The Term "Robot"
The word "Robot" was first used the play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) written by Karel Capek in Czechoslovia in 1920.
The play was first performed in Prague in 1921 and New York in 1922. Karel's brother Josef (also a respected Czech writer) first coined the word that would replace the word "automaton" due to the popularity of the play.
In the play a remote island factory of Rossum's Universal Robots is visited by a woman on a humanitarian mission to liberate the robots. Modifications to the robots leads to a robot revolt and the killing humans on the island. The play ends with nature triumphant and the two lead robotic characters falling in love.
