Worst Terrorist Attack On The United Nations

Historical Events

On Tuesday, August 19th, 2003 a truck filled with military munitions and explosives was driven up to the United Nations headquarters in the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq and exploded. Among the 17 killed was the top U.N. envoy in Iraq Sergio Vieira de Mello and 100 others were injured in the blast.

The attack is the worst in the 59 year history of the United Nations. Though no one claimed responsibility, remnants of ousted President Saddam Hussein's regime or foreign terrorists could have been responsible for the blast.
