African Gambian Pouch rats, also known as the African giant pouch rat are the largest rats in the world. They grow to 13-17 inches from tip of nose to the base of the tail and the tail is about the same length or longer. They can be more than six pounds. They live in forests and thickets in from Senegal to Central Sudan and down to South Africa.
