Italian Dictator Mussolini Killed By Resistance Fighters

As the war in Europe came to a close in 1945 allied and resistance forces freed Italy from fascist control. The fascist dictator Benito Mussolini (known as 'Il Duce'), who was nothing more than a puppet for Hitler, attempted to flee the country into Switzerland dressed as a German solder. He was recognized by Italian partisans and captured. He and his mistress were shot on April 28, 1945 at a gate in the northern town of Giulino di Mezzegra.
