The First IBM Personal Computer Released In 1981

On August 12, 1981 International Business Machines (IBM) launched the first IBM Personal Computer (PC). This first affordable PC featured a 16-bit Intel 8088 processor, 40 KB built in ROM, 16 KB of RAM, a 160 KB 5.25-inch diskette drive, Microsoft PC DOS 1.0, green monochrome text display and is credited with starting the PC revolution. Weighing in at 74 pounds and costing $3,500 US IBM projected to sell 250,000 PCs in the first five years, but instead sold over three million.
