The Office of Homeland Security Is Signed Into Law
At 1:20 P.M. on November 25, 2002 President Bush signed into law the Office of Homeland Security. The new department will be responsible for the security of the United States from terrorism and other threats. The department is a direct result of the attacks of September 11, 2001 and will have 170,000 workers and a $37 billion budget.
The creation of this new department, involving pulling parts of 22 other agencies together, is the biggest reorganization in the federal government since the Department of Defence was created in 1947.
