Politics

The Greek parliament in the summer of 2002 passed a highly unusual law known as Law Number 3037. The law, which became law on July 20, 2002, bans anyone from playing or owning any form of electronic games including arcade games, PC games, console games, handheld games, and even cell phones with embedded games.

Originally proposed at the end of May the ban originally only applied to public places, but was amended to include private places. The law was intended to stop online gambling. Penalties could include fines of 5,000 - 75,000 euros and imprisoned for up to 12 months.
